Travalyst expands global sustainable travel coalition to include Expedia Group

Apr. 20, 2022

Expedia Group joins industry peers – Booking.com, Google, Skyscanner, Trip.com Group, Tripadvisor and Visa – to shape a more sustainable travel and tourism sector.

LONDON (20 April, 2022): Travalyst, the not-for-profit sustainable travel organisation set up by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, today announced that its coalition of partners has widened to include global travel platform, Expedia Group.

Expedia Group joining represents a major milestone for Travalyst. As a neutral, pre-competitive coalition, Travalyst brings together some of the biggest brands in travel globally to leverage the power of partnerships in transforming the future of travel. True systems change requires collaboration and commitment from the entire industry and with the addition of Expedia Group, the objective of scaling sustainability initiatives is ever closer.

Sally Davey, CEO, Travalyst, says “We are thrilled to welcome Expedia Group to the Travalyst coalition. Since its inception, Travalyst’s mission has been to transform travel into a wholly positive impact industry. Driven by data and the core belief that travel is a force for good, Expedia Group’s platforms and data will enable Travalyst to help more travellers make better choices for themselves and the planet.”

“Expedia Group is taking action to address climate change and is committed to working across our industry and with a range of partners to shape a sustainable travel and tourism sector,” said Aditi Mohapatra, Vice President of Global Social Impact and Sustainability, Expedia Group.

Mohapatra continued, “Aligning our mission of travel as a force for good with growing traveler expectations on sustainability, we’re excited to join the Travalyst Coalition and work with our peers to deliver change across the travel industry. Our research shows travelers are looking for ways to minimize their footprint while traveling and support local communities and cultures, and we see travelers turning to our platform for inspiration and guidance to inform their decisions. In partnership with the Travalyst Coalition, our goal is to provide travelers with more responsible choices and align our business, and industry, towards a net zero future.”

Travalyst recently announced that its Coalition Partners have all aligned on a shared framework to collect and display flight emissions data, with all travel distribution partners, including Expedia Group, confirming their intention to adopt and implement the model in the near future.
