New York, Monday 21 September 2026: Travalyst – the independent not-for-profit coalition of leading travel and technology companies founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex – today announces a significant step in aligning the industry behind accurate and consistent rail emissions information.
Developed by Travalyst Coalition partner SQUAKE, the Rail Emissions Model (REM) provides a clear and credible quantification of passenger-rail greenhouse gas emissions. The methodology has been shaped by rounds of expert input from across the industry, including detailed feedback from Travalyst’s Independent Advisory Group.
Now, the coalition (which includes many partners with rail use cases such as Skyscanner, Google, Trip.com Group, Amadeus, Sabre, BCD and Pitchup) has aligned behind the REM, with the model currently being integrated into Travalyst’s Data Hub. The aim is to unify the industry around one consistent, open access rail emissions model, and build on Travalyst’s work to unlock sustainability data at scale.
As an independent, pre-competitive coalition, Travalyst has already demonstrated what may be possible when key industry players work together to increase transparency and provide more information for consumers. The Travel Impact Model (TIM), developed by Google in collaboration with Travalyst, helped convene the sector around a trusted aviation emissions calculation model that has resulted in comparable flight emissions estimates appearing in billions of searches worldwide. The current focus on rail reflects Travalyst’s ambition to scale its work across other verticals, in addition to its work in aviation.
Julie Cheetham, CEO, Travalyst said, “The industry must shift its focus towards decreasing carbon emissions if we are to secure a more resilient future for travel and tourism. By aligning our coalition partners and the wider industry around one trusted, credible, and consistent rail emissions measurement methodology, we’re providing much needed clarity and transparency to a historically fragmented landscape. Now, travel management platforms and travellers themselves will be able to make trusted, more informed decisions that help accelerate a lower-carbon future for the sector.”
Philipp von Lamezan, Founder and CEO of SQUAKE, said, “When we joined Travalyst last year, it was with the ambition to scale our work beyond what we could achieve alone. I’m thrilled that, by collaborating together, we are able to establish the Rail Emissions Model (REM) as an industry standard, unlocking access to rail emissions information that has up until now been inconsistent, inaccessible, and hard to compare.”

Today, Travalyst welcomes Dragos to its coalition. Specialising in cybersecurity for operational technology, Dragos works to protect critical infrastructure that is vital to travel and tourism, such as airports, rail, water, and energy systems including wind and solar.
Their expertise, insight, and intelligence play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and security of the transport and travel sector, in a world increasingly vulnerable to cybersecurity threats.
Dragos joins other leading travel and technology companies in the Travalyst Coalition, including Amadeus, Booking.com, Expedia Group, Google, Skyscanner, Trip.com Group, and Visa. The coalition, representing a combined market value of over $3 trillion, provides trusted information at scale to empower better decision-making, and accelerate impact-led change.
